President Jacob Zuma should appoint a properly qualified, fit and proper person to lead the National Prosecuting Authority.
That's the appeal from the Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution following last week's ruling in the death of Ficksburg protester Andries Tatane at the hands of the police.
The NPA said it would not appeal the ruling which led to the acquittal of the policemen charged with his murder, which was captured on camera.
Lawson Naidoo of Casac says its time that President Zuma restores the faith of the public in the NPA.
"As one of the critical elements in the criminal justice system I think as South Africans we need to be very concerned about the state of the NPA. It has been without a proper head now for over 5 and a half years and I think it is incumbent for the President to appoint a fit and proper person as the head of the NPA so that we can begin to restore public confidence in this critical arm of the state"
