The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) said it has commenced with investigations into a major crash in Mpumalanga on Monday in which ten people died.
RTMC spokesperson, Simon Zwane, said the accident occurred at around 01H00 when a “mini truck” side-swiped a minibus taxi as it took an off-ramp from the N12 onto the R42 towards Delmas.
Zwane said the minibus taxi is apparently a Mozambican registered vehicle travelling towards Emalahleni, while the truck is believed to have been travelling to Bronkhorstspruit.

“As a result, eight (8) occupants, including the driver from the minibus, lost their lives instantly while six (6) sustained serious injuries.
“In the truck, two (2) passengers lost their lives while eighteen (18) people, including the driver, sustained serious injuries.
“All injured occupants have been sent to nearby hospitals,” Zwane said.
The investigation will try to establish the cause of the crash by probing all contributing factors, including environmental factors, the roadworthiness of the vehicles and driver behaviour, to determine what could have led to the crash.
Zwane said the RTMC extended its sincere condolences to the families of all the deceased occupants and wishes those who are hospitalised a swift and full recovery.
