A Gauteng woman has been sentenced to three life terms for killing her two lovers and her son, and then burying them all in the same grave.
The National Prosecuting Authority said 47-year-old Pamela Selani, from Olievenhoutsbosch, was sentenced in the Pretoria High Court on Monday for the murders committed between 2016 and 2017.
NPA spokesperson, Lumka Mahanjana, said she was given an additional five-year term for defeating the ends of justice.
Selani’s murder spree began in 2016, after an argument with her one lover, Michael Changisa, after he had “infected her with a chronic a disease.”
She said Selani then conspired with a second lover, named only as Gift, to kill Changisa, who was bludgeoned to death with a hammer.
The two then buried Changisa’s body in the yard of Selani's house.
Mahanjana said Selani and Gift lived together until she complained to her son, Avile Jojwana, that he was abusing her, and the two then conspired to kill the Malawian.
Gift was poisoned in 2017, with Selani and her son burying his body in the same grave as Changisa.
According to the state, Selani’s murder spree did not end there, but with the murder of her own, drug-addicted son, who had threatened to spill the beans on the other two murders.
He was also beaten to death with a hammer and placed in the same grave as the other two.
Selani’s 14-year-old son, who was taken to a traditional healer to deal with the trauma of the events, spilled the beans leading to her eventual arrest and conviction.
The teen also turned state’s witness against his mother after being charged as an accused.
Mahanjana said Judge Papi Masopa agreed with the state that Selani showed no remorse, and said she was “an evil person” who killed her two lovers and child.
“It is by mercy that the 14-year-old was not killed,” he said.
