The South African Post Office says it is committed to getting to the bottom of the circumstances that led to the appointment of the employee charged with the murder of University of Cape Town student, 19-year old Uy-nene Mrwetyana.
SAPO board member, Dr Charles Nwaila says in addition to the dedicated sub-committee convened by the board to investigate the circumstances surrounding the appointment of the implicated employee, the Post Office management conducted a preliminary investigation.
He said its findings had been shared with Communications and Telecommunications and Postal Services Minister, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams.
Nwaila said the findings confirmed that the alleged perpetrator’s employment did not follow the routine SAPO recruitment process because his entry into the Post Office was through a labour broker in 2012.
He confirmed that at the time, there was no screening of these employees, as they were already in the system via labour brokers.
