Paralympian Oscar Pistorius is expected to appear in court on Friday.
Police reportedly said that his bail application cannot be processed on Thursday.
Pistorius was taken into custody following the shooting of his model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
She died after being shot several times at Pistorius' home in Pretoria early this morning.
Earlier police said they were surprised by reports that Pistorius had mistaken Steenkamp for a burglar.
A police spokesperson said that report did not emanate from them.
Police also confirmed that there had been previous incidents of a domestic nature at Pistorius' home.
