The businesswomen's association of South Africa says only 10% of women in business have benefited regularly from government tenders in the past 5 years.
The association revealed findings of an ongoing study on the involvement of women in government procurement in East London yesterday.
Research co-ordinator Hannah Edinger said the majority of respondents stated that they only rendered goods and services sporadically or once off to government.
"A greater share of the women respondents much more engaged in the sporadic or once off basis on accessing and tapping the government supply chain, that was about 55% and the results that we have seen where about 22% have not rendered any services or goods to government in the last 5 years" Edinger said.
