Nersa hearings move to Bloem

The National Energy Regulator takes its public hearings into Eskom's proposed electricity price increases to the Mangaung Metro Council in Bloemfontein on Monday.
Eskom has applied to raise electricity prices by 16% per year over the next five years.

It estimates that it will need R1.1 trillion, for its infrastructure maintenance, staff cost and growth.

The regulator's hearing was cancelled in Port Elizabeth last week, due to a protest for which Numsa arranged permission with the authorities.

They said the hearings should not be at a luxury beachfront hotel, but closer to the people who would be most affected by the proposed increases.
