Dope testing begins at South African schools

School children found doping in sports could face expulsion with the implementation of testing at schools from Monday.

The SA Institute for Drug-Free Sport says the testing programme is aimed at stamping out the growing scourge of steroid and drug use among adolescents in schools.

Institute CEO Khalid Galant says testing will occur at any time and will not only be limited to athletes.

He says the launch of the program follows lengthy consultation with the World Anti Doping Agency.

The category of substances has been drawn from the Agency's list of Prohibited Substances.
