Northern Cape police have arrested a man for being in the possession of “illicit alcohol valued at R10 million” following a week-long surveillance operation.
According to a SAPS statement, the arrest was made in Douglas on Friday morning by a team comprising Provincial Organised Crime, Kimberley SAPS Designated police official, Security Intelligence, and the South African Liquor Board.
“When searching the premises, the owner willfully directed the police to a storeroom where they discovered a huge amount of illicit alcohol,” SAPS said.
He also faces an additional charge of bribery for allegedly offering one of the SAPS members R170 000-00 “cash to turn a blind eye.”
The 50-year-old will appear in the Douglas Magistrate’s Court this week.
