The South African Medical Association (SAMA) has urged doctors to ensure that they have adequate safety and security measures at their practice as they have become easy targets to criminals.
This follows after a fatal shooting on Wednesday at a doctor's surgery in Mabopane, Pretoria where a receptionist was killed and the doctor and his assistant shot and wounded.
Chairperson for SAMA Dr Angelique Coetzee says Wednesday's attack has caused great anxiety among the medical fraternity.
According to Netcare 911 who first responded to the scene, a group of armed men stormed into the practice, demanding cash.
