The SA Institute of Race Relations says the Basic Education Minister should release the disaggregated results of the Annual National Assessment.
It says the results of the 2012 assessment released recently by Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga confirms that basic education in South Africa is in a dire state.
Researcher Jonathan Snyman says without the disaggregated results, broken down by school, district, and province, the true extent of the problem cannot be adequately gauged.
He says they want Motshekga to release the full set of results for proper assessment.
"If you look at just the overhaul results they don't exactly paint a flattering picture of what is happening in our education system as a whole but really to actually truly understand where our pupils are going wrong it is necessary then for research organisations such as ourselves to have access to these results to try and get to the bottom of this mess" Snyman said.
