The Road Traffic Management Corporation says at least 18 people have died in road accidents since New Year.
RTMC spokesperson, Ashref Ismail says the festive season death toll has reached 1207 since the beginning of December.
He says for 100 hours there were no reported accidents, then 2 fatal accidents occurred in Mpumalanga and Port Elizabeth.
Five youths were killed when a bakkie, driven by a 14-year-old, overturned in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga. The teenager was unlicensed and was transporting about 13 other young people.
In Port Elizabeth, a vehicle hit two pedestrians on Tuesday, killing them instantly. Three more in the vehicle died at the scene, and two others were seriously injured.
The accident happened on the road between Uitenhage and PE.
Ismail says they suspect speed and alcohol played a part in the accident.
