The race for the ANC presidency has been thrown wide open.
That's with the confirmation this afternoon that ANC deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe will be running for party president against party president Jacob Zuma.
Zuma is already widely tipped to be elected for a second term.
Motlanthe's spokersperson, Thabo Masebe, was quoted as saying that Motlathe has accepted the nomination for president, deputy president and any other position within the ANC.
More than 4 000 ANC delegates will be attending the party's 53rd national elective conference in Mangaung which gets underway on Sunday.
