More than 1.1m learners to sit for combined exams in 2020

The Department of Basic Education said that more than 1.1 million learners would sit for the combined June and November examinations this year.

In a statement on Wednesday, Minister Angie Motshekga said these exams would commence on 5 November and end on 15 December.

This followed a decision by the Minister to administer the May/June 2020 examination concurrently with the October/November 2020 examination.

"The late commencement of the final Grade 12 examinations will allow schools and learners adequate time to cover the curriculum and also to ensure that ample time is allocated for revision of the syllabus," Motshekga said.

She reminded candidates that those who have already registered for the May/June exams and the October/November matric exams would receive admission letters before the end of September.

The results of the 2020 Grade 12 examination would be released to candidates on 23 February 2021.

"Candidates need to be assured that the late release of the results will not jeopardise their admission to Higher Education Institutions," Minister Motshekga said.
