The fire that flared up again on the roof of the National Assembly Building on Monday afternoon has been contained.
Parliamentary spokesperson Moloto Mothapo says as a result of the fire on the roof, the third to the fifth floor has now been destroyed.
Further damage was also caused to areas housing offices of MP's and their support staff.
He says about 20 crewmen will remain on-site to monitor the situation.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the firefighters were applauded for their courageous and brave fighting spirit that carried on until midnight.
With the fire now contained, it is anticipated that the work by the multidisciplinary team of engineers, which arrived at Parliament on Monday to conduct an assessment and establish the scale of the damage - amongst others, will proceed.
