Medical doctor in custody for allegedly raping his patient

A medical doctor from Kimberley is in police custody following his arrest for allegedly raping a young patient.

A spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority Mojalefa Senokoatsane says the 17-year-old victim went to the accused's surgery for medical attention on Monday when the alleged incident took place.

He says the teenager left the surgery and the following morning informed her aunt who assisted her with opening a case with the police.

The DFA, a local publication in Kimberley identified the doctor as 35-year-old Illunga Kalasa.

Dr Kalasa will be back in court on the 22nd of August for a formal bail application.
