Gauteng police have launched a manhunt for the suspects who blew up a cash-in-transit vehicle on a Johannesburg highway, fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Amanda van Wyk, says the robbery took place on the Golden Highway, south of the city on Friday morning.
She said a group of armed suspects intercepted the cash van before attaching explosives and blowing it up.
The gang also took a rifle and two pistols from the security officers before fleeing in two vehicles.
Mathe said the guards sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
