A 43-year-old man from KwaDukuza in Kwazulu Natal was sentenced to a decade behind bars after pleading guilty to the possession of child pornography.
In June, last year, Jacobus Pieter de Wet was delivering magazines to a chain store in Ballito when he left his phone on the counter.
Employees at the shop who tried to establish the identity of the owner went through the phone where they found over 400 images of child pornography.
A regional spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority Natasha Kara says the images on his phone were from unknown children ranging in ages from three-months to 16-years.
She says in some of the images adults can be seen engaging in sexual acts with children.
Kara says de Wet admitted in court that he had a problem with child pornography and could not help himself.
He also had a previous conviction for grooming and theft.
