A man appeared in a Western Cape Court after being caught with a massive haul of drugs valued at R4 million.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, said 45-year-old Mkhokeli Nkomo, appeared in the Laingsburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
He said Nkomo was arrested on Tuesday by SAPS members deployed on exit and entry routes to the province to prevent the flow of illicit drugs into the Western Cape.
Spies said after members stopped Nkomo’s truck they noticed that he was acting suspiciously.
They searched the vehicle and found more than 295 kilograms of dagga and 31 000 Mandrax tablets in the trailer of the vehicle.
He said the drugs appeared to have originated in Johannesburg and were destined for Cape Town.
Spies said Nkomo’s case was postponed to 16 February for a formal bail application.
