An Ekhuruleni police member shot and killed his 30-year-old partner at the Thembisa Hospital on Wednesday.
Gauteng police spokesperson, Brigadier Brenda Muridili, says SAPS members responded to a shooting incident at the Tembisa Hospital where they found that the suspect in the shooting was a SAPS member attached to the Ekhuruleni District Trio Task Team.
"It's reported that the member went to the hospital driving a state vehicle that had blue lights. On arrival there, he called out his partner who works at the hospital. Witnesses said they heard gunshots after that," Muridili said.
She said the woman succumbed to her injuries while the 30-year-old SAPS member, who turned the gun on himself, was airlifted to hospital and it is critical condition.
Muridili said a case of murder was opened for investigation.
