Man expected in court for dealing in raw gold material

A 41-year-old man is expected to appear in the Pongola Magistrates' Court in Kwazulu Natal on Wednesday following his arrest for allegedly dealing in raw gold material.

Spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo says they received intel about a suspect who was reportedly preparing to smuggle raw gold material to Gauteng, and a joint operation was swiftly conducted.

It is alleged that the raw gold was extracted from the Klipwal Gold mine in Pongola.

The value of the seized raw gold is estimated to be worth R500 000.00

Captain Mhlongo says the suspect will also face a charge of corruption after he allegedly offered police a bribe to set him free.
