Police in Gauteng arrested 16 suspects in Boksburg on Tuesday night after foiling a planned business robbery.
Spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters says the robbers were targeting a freight depot at Jet Park in Boksburg North.
A multi-disciplinary task team kept observing the suspects and eventually, a shootout ensued.
Brigadier Peters says a takedown was executed and 16 suspects were arrested and eight illegal firearms confiscated.
During the arrest, police also confiscated two vehicles which were both confirmed stolen and fitted with false number plates
The confiscated firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to see if they were used in the commission of any other crimes.
The suspects will appear in court soon where they will face several charges.
