A 42-year-old man is due to appear in the Middleburg Magistrate's Court on Friday for allegedly being in the possession of rhino horns valued at about R2 million.
Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said he was arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning when Mpumalanga K9 Unit members stopped a mini-bus on the N4 next to the Middelburg toll plaza.
"There were no passengers in the minibus. After police introduced themselves to the driver, they requested to search the vehicle," he said.
Mohlahla said a black plastic bag with two rhino horns was found concealed under the vehicle's bonnet.
He said the driver was arrested and charged, adding that charges related to contravening the National Environmental Management Biodiversity Act, could still be added.
