Two suspects are expected to appear in the Bredasdorp Magistrates Court on Thursday on charges of hijacking, kidnapping and extortion.
Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie says a 25-year-old man and his 42-year-old female friend were hijacked at gunpoint in Gansbaai on Tuesday evening.
He says the man was then forced to withdraw cash from an ATM in Bredasdorp about 70 km away.
Pojie says details of the victim's bakkie were circulated to local police who spotted the vehicle shortly before 10 p.m.
He says when police tried to stop the bakkie, the driver sped off and a high-speed chase ensued.
Members of SAPS managed to block in the bakkie and the driver was forced to stop.
Pojie says only the female victim was found at the back of the bakkie and two suspects, aged 24 and 30 were arrested.
He says the male victim was reportedly left at the ATM.
An unlicensed firearm was also found in their possession.
