Cocaine worth over R70 million was seized at the Durban harbour on Wednesday.
This follows an intelligence-driven operation led by SAPS and the Hawks who monitored the harbour for the last month.
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola says police kept surveillance on a vessel that was making its way to South Africa from Brazil.
He says prior to the vessel arriving at the Port of Durban, members intercepted the identified vessel and mobilised various units and resources to conduct a search and seizure operation on the identified container.
The container was moved to a warehouse in the south of Durban, where five, 10 and 20-litre containers of white paint were found.
When forensic reams opened the paint containers they found over 200 plastic-wrapped blocks of cocaine floating in the paint.
Masemola says it is believed that the drugs were destined for Gauteng.
No arrests have been made.
