A man, who is accused of conspiring to assassinate his 42-year-old ex-wife, has been granted R5000 bail in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court.
54-year old Klaas Thokwana was arrested on Wednesday by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit in Secunda. after allegations that he hired a 39-old-woman to assist with the planned plot.
The meeting between the two detailed how the alleged planned plot would be executed.
The so-called hitwoman later withdrew from the plan and informed the man's wife of the plot.
The matter was reported to the Hawks for further investigation, and it transpired that on Tuesday, the suspect allegedly contacted the hitwoman and informed her that he was going ahead with the plan on his own.
The investigating team was alerted and Thokwana was arrested on his way to the ex-wife’s house.
During the arrest, the suspect was found in possession of his legal 9mm pistol, which was seized.
He is expected to be back in court again on 11 March 2020.
