A male nurse has been fired for allegedly raping a patient suffering from depression in a Potchefstroom hospital in North West province.
Health MEC Magoma Masike said the man had been found guilty following a disciplinary process and was then dismissed.
Masike said the provincial health department had apologised to the woman and the community.
North West police say the 24-year-old man will appear in the Potchefstroom Magistrate's Court on the 16th of February on a charge of rape.
It is alleged that the suspect drugged the victim with medicine before raping her last month.
