Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula has sent condolences to the Egyptian government after the deaths of 71 people in violence at a soccer match.
Mbalula said it was disheartening to witness such horrific and horrendous actions in the name of sport.
He said sport is supposed to be a tool for national reconciliation, nation building and patriotism.
Violence broke out on Wednesday after loal soccer club Al-Masry beat Cairo club Al-Ahly 3-1 in Port Said.
Al-Ahly is one of Egypt's most successful teams.
