Build One South Africa leader, Mmusi Maimane, has announced that he would be running for President in next year’s election.
He told supporters in Tshwane on Saturday that he was there “preparing to change the occupants of the Union Buildings in 2024 and elect a new government that builds South Africa.”
“This may seem an audacious task to some, but I believe this is a moment the nation is ready for. History teaches us that there comes a day where David must confront Goliath and indeed see a nation born in a day. Now is that time. Together we can Build to win,” Maimane said.
Build One South Africa marked its first anniversary on Heritage Day.
“Armed with a courageous dream, we declared that our country is too important to us to remain on the sidelines as spectators,” Maimane said.
He said over the past year, BOSA has been in the business of building, attracting over 20,000 activists, revealing the first 24 of its community candidates standing for election, appointed provincial leaders in all nine provinces, and launched its “10 Big Ideas” policy suite.
“Part of BOSA’s DNA is to be a “government-in-working” – instead of a government in waiting. That means building now, however, and wherever we can, instead of waiting to build only when in government,” Maimane declared.
He said for 30 years the ANC-led government has squandered its opportunity to forge a shared heritage for South Africa.
