South African Police said investigators are working with Interpol to track down the suspects behind the kidnapping of two women and a man from a farm in Komatipoort on Sunday evening, 24 September.
Police said the victims were released on Friday are were traumatised by the incident.
The kidnappers, believed to be Mozambican nationals, remain at large.
“Preliminary investigation by the police indicate that the victims were subjected to gross human violation during the ordeal,” SAPS said.
“At this stage, the investigation is in progress. Police are also convinced that the suspects could be foreign nationals from Mozambique and they are currently working with role players like Interpol to ensure that no one escape from the might of the law”.
Police are also seeking the assistance of one Reuben Makwakwa who they believe can be of assistance to the investigation.
“The motive for the kidnapping is unknown at this stage however police cannot rule out possibilities of demand for ransom and this quest will form part of the investigation,” the SAPS statement said.
