Police members in Mondeor, Johannesburg were called out to a complex on Tuesday where several learners were found bunking school.
In a video doing the rounds on social media, two police officers can be seen entering a home in the Lion Ridge Complex.
An unknown adult, allegedly the owner or tenant of the house, can be seen talking to police officers before he opens two bedroom doors.
The video shows at least 10 pupils, male and female, from the President High School in Ridgeway emerging from the rooms.
The learners were allegedly drinking and smoking a hookah pipe.
Spokesperson for the Department of Education in Gauteng Steve Mabona says as soon as the school received a complaint about their learners, officials from the school responded to the property.
He says the Department is taking the matter seriously and has offered support to the school by initiating an investigation and subsequent disciplinary hearing against all the learners involved.
Mabona says the MEC for Education in Gauteng, Matome Chiloane expressed his displeasure after seeing the video and urged learners to be wary of negative behaviour which might have serious implications for their future.
The children were reportedly taken to the Mondeor Police Station for their parents to collect them.
The ages and grades of the learners are unknown at this stage.
