Build One South Africa says with just days left until the Minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana tables his Medium Term Budget in Parliament, it made a presentation to the Minister on Wednesday -outlining a comprehensive plan to reduce the cost of living on struggling households.
These include the reduction of fuel levies, no further increases in VAT, while the list of no-VAT basic food items should be expanded, as well as no further increases in electricity tariffs.
BOSA says South Africans are in a dire situation, and debt is increasing as the cost of living rises.
The political movement says families in the middle and upper-income brackets have additional expenses that include private schooling, private security, and private medical funds, all of which are on the rise.
BOSA says households with lower income spend an average of 70% of their disposable income on food and transport.
"This, while more than half of South Africa lives below the poverty line", it said.
