The water situation in KwaNojoli, formerly Somerset East, took a turn for the worst on Tuesday morning.

Shocked residents described the liquid that came out of the taps, especially in the morning, as a brownish murky goo.

Algoa FM News has seen several photos and a video relating to this.

Local DA councillor, Jonathan Martin, says the Blue Crane Route Local Municipality confirmed the deterioration of the water situation in the town in a notice to residents.

Martin and ward 5 councilor confirmed the situation.

"I can confirm that it is true," said Ward 5 councilor Lorraine Smith. "The same at my house."

Meanwhile, in a notice to residents on Tuesday, the Municipality said sediment was found in a section of the pipeline supplying the Khalela Reservoir.

It said the section of the pipeline in Paulette Street was being drained to clear the water, while water quality inspections were continuing.

The Municipality said that the area of Westview would not have water due to cable theft, and no time-frames were given for the restoration.

"Theft and vandalism is a cancer, we need to cure," the notice read.
