The Independent Police Investigative Directorate says it has opened a murder investigation after a taxi driver died in police detention.
Police commissioner, general Rhia Phiyega, says the death of Mido Macia in Daveyton, Soweto, on Thursday is strongly condemned.
Macia was arrested, bound and dragged behind a police vehicle following a fight with police who approached him for parking on the wrong side of the road.
He died later in police custody.
IPID spokesperson, Moses Dlamini, says their investigators went back to Daveyton police station on Thursday.
The investigation is still at an early stage and no arrests have yet been made.
