A 45-year-old man is due to appear in a Cape Town court on Wednesday for being in possession of abalone valued at R1.7 million.
The Hawks said he was arrested in Cape Town together with Crime Intelligence, members of the K9 unit and officials from the Department of Environmental Forestry and Fisheries.
This followed a search and seizure operation at a house in Edgemead on Tuesday.
Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Philani Nkwalase, says during the raid they seized over 245 kilograms of dried abalone as well as abalone processing equipment.
