Six soldiers are expected to make their first appearance in the Musina Magistrates Court in Limpopo Province on Wednesday following their arrest on charges of fraud.

Captain Matimba Maluleke of the Hawks says the soldiers, who have the military rank of either Lance-Corporal or Private, were stationed at the Beitbridge Border Post from 2017 to 2019.

They allegedly conspired with vehicle smuggling syndicates to smuggle stolen vehicles across the Limpopo River in exchange for money.

Captain Maluleke says the soldiers would charge R15 000 per vehicle and would share the money amongst themselves.

The SANDF soldiers, aged between 30 and 51, have been on the police radar for some time and were arrested by teams in North West, Northern Cape and the Free State.
