Two men are expected to appear in the Strand Magistrates' Court on Friday where they will be charged with attempted murder, hijacking, armed robbery and the illegal possession of a firearm.
This follows their alleged crime spree on Wednesday where they shot and wounded a passenger in his car, hijacked another vehicle and eventually overturned the car to evade arrest.
Police Spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana says the two suspects first approached a stationary dairy delivery truck where they fired shots hitting the passenger in the stomach.
The men stole a cellphone and fled the scene.
Sergeant Rwexana says they then hijacked a Light Delivery Vehicle which was busy delivering sweets to a shop.
The suspects got on to the N2 and fled in the direction of Cape Town.
The owner of the truck managed to flag down police who were patrolling the area and other members were mobilized.
Sergeant Rwexana says a traffic officer from Lwandile spotted the hijacked vehicle in the vicinity of Khayelitsha and approached them in oncoming traffic in an attempt to stop them and make an arrest.
He says the hijacked vehicle then overturned and the suspects both sustained minor injuries.
Both men, aged 22, were arrested and taken to a hospital to be treated.
