Harmony Gold's Kusa-salethu mine is reportedly in a dire position as a result of unprotected labour strikes last year.
Business Day reports that the workers have been given until the 7th of March to resolve their grievances or face retrenchment.
Harmony CEO Graham Briggs has warned in an open letter that they have 60 days to save the mine.
His letter says murder, violence, intimidation and damage to mine property, have prompted the decision to suspend operations at the mine near Carletonville placing thousands of jobs in jeopardy.
A meeting between unions and mine management is scheduled for Thursday.
