The department of home affairs says more than 500,000 people were processed in and out of South Africa at all national ports of entry during the Easter weekend.
It says the figure was recorded from March 28 to April 1 and the processing of travelers was without any glitches.
Earlier, Home Affairs Minister Naledi Pandor issued a directive to deploy extra personnel, and increase working hours at all national ports of entry -- land, sea and air.
The department says this enabled the ports to deal with expected high traveler volumes during the Easter weekend.
The ports of entry with the highest volumes of travelers included the OR Tambo International Airport, Beitbridge, Lebombo, Ficksburg and Oshoek.
