A 25-year-old man who allegedly walked around with his mother's head in a bag was arrested this weekend for her murder.
Police Spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone says the suspect is expected to appear in the Molopo Magistrates Court in Mmabatho near Mahikeng on Monday.
He was arrested on Saturday evening after police received a tip-off about a suspect who allegedly killed his mother and was walking around carrying her head in a bag.
On arrival at the scene, members searched him and indeed found him in possession of a human head.
The suspect, following his arrest, admitted to killing his mother in Hercules in Pretoria last Monday before travelling to the North West.
Mokgwabone said he will be transferred to Pretoria to face a charge of murder after he appears in court on Monday.
He said the motive of the murder remains unknown and an investigation into the matter remains underway.
