The State Security Agency has given the assurance that reports about a plot to assassinate the US Ambassador to South Africa, was receiving the necessary attention.
Agency spokesperson, Mava Scott said they were interacting with all relevant partners at home and abroad to ensure that no harm will come to the US Ambassador, Lana Marks.
This, amid reports that Iran was targetting Marks in retaliation for the US's killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in January
"The agency is interacting with all relevant partners both in the country and abroad, to ensure that no harm will be suffered by the US Ambassador, including any other Diplomatic Officials inside the borders of our country," he said.
Scott said, "the nature of the allegation and attendant threat doesn't permit us to give any detailed updates on the investigations."
He said further reports would be provided to all the relevant authorities including the President of the Republic, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation and relevant officials in the United States administration.
