Rugby giant, Kobus Wiese, is in hospital following a heart attack.
According to a colleague of Wiese, the former Springbok lock seems to be in a stable condition, following surgery to insert a stent.
Fellow Springbok and close friend Toks van der Linde said Wiese is currently in a stable condition in ICU at Panorama Medi-clinic in Cape Town, where he is being closely monitored.
He says Wiese had dinner with his wife on Tuesday night but started feeling ill and was rushed to Paarl Medi-clinic.
From there he was taken by ER ambulance to Panorama where doctors immediately performed surgery and inserted a stent in his heart.
Van der Linde said it ‘had been pretty hectic’ and that the cardiologists at Panorama had most certainly saved Wiese’s life.
He said Wiese was a strong guy and that God had given him a second chance and he believed he would pull through.
Wiese is a regular TV Rugby pundit these days and also a highly successful businessman.
The 56-year-old Wiese made his debut for the Boks in 1993 and was part of the 1995 squad that won the Rugby World Cup.
