A female police officer was shot and wounded while on duty at a satellite police station in Theunissen in the Free State.
Police spokesperson, Captain Stephen Thakeng, said the 35-year-old Constable managed to return fire even though she was wounded in the abdomen.
He said there balaclava-clad gunmen entered the satellite police station at around 01:30 on Wednesday morning, and started to fire shots towards the on-duty officer.
“She managed to return fire and they fled. The member was taken to a hospital. A case of attempted murder has been registered for further investigation,” Thakeng said.
He said the search for the three assailants is continuing.
