Female constable gunned down in Cape Town

The South African Police Service has condemned the killing of a 30-year-old police constable who was shot while on duty in Nyanga in the Western Cape, on Monday.

The fatal shooting followed after members of the Nyanga police, who were on patrol, noticed that a spaza shop was still open and thus in contravention of the Disaster Management Regulations.

When officers approached the shop, a man came from behind and fired multiple shots, seriously wounding the female Constable, who later died.

Officers retaliated and fired back, injuring one suspect who is currently in hospital under police guard.

The 22-year-old will be charged with murder.

Two other suspects aged 24 and 28 were also arrested for their alleged involvement.
