A man and his three-year-old daughter burnt to death in Ramaphosa informal settlement in Boksburg on Thursday morning after he allegedly torched the family's shack.
The Ekurhuleni Municipality said the fire was reported at 5 am and had completely gutted the structure.
A city official said that two of the man’s other children, aged five and seven, escaped with slight injuries.
"They apparently screamed for help and when neighbours intervened, the father locked himself and the three-year-old toddler behind the door and set the shack alight," according to a statement.
Their mother was not at home at the time of the incident.
