A farmworker from Bethlehem in the Free State has been arrested for allegedly defrauding a farmer of R213 500.
Police spokesperson, Captain Christopher Singo, says the 37-year-old Paul Sonnekus was due to appear in court in February but disappeared and a warrant of arrest issued.
He said Sonnekus had used his employer's account to buy goods on several occasions but the farmer was unaware of the unlawful activities on his account.
Singo says he allegedly stole the money over a five-month period in 2018.
He said when the farmer realised what had happened, he reported the matter to police who brought in the Hawks.
Sonnekus was arrested on Monday and appeared in court where he was released on bail of R5 000.
He will be back in court again on 29 July.
