Eskom has announced that it will implement stage 1 loadshedding from 9 am to 2 pm on Thursday.
It will then move to stage 2 until 10 pm.
The power utility said in a statement last night that due to much colder weather, demand for electricity has significantly increased.
It reached its highest demand so far this year yesterday at more than 33 000 Mega Watts.
It said this, together with generation units that have suffered breakdowns, is putting a severe strain on the system.
