An elderly man is in police custody for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs into India.
Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda says the 69-year-old was arrested at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
He says the arrest follows an intelligence-driven operation where the suspect was identified.
Police discovered 8 kg of pure heroin with a street value of R1.2 million concealed in his travelling bag.
He is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrates Court on Friday.
