A couple from Doornpoort in Pretoria will spend the rest of their lives in prison for sexually abusing their minor children.
The 39-year-old man and his 33-year-old wife were each sentenced to two life terms plus an additional 22 years this week for various sexual offences and drug possession.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana says the couple was found guilty of rape, compelled rape, sexual assault, sexual grooming, flashing, child neglect and possession of drugs.
The heinous crimes were committed in 2014 when their children were five and eight years old.
Mahanjana says the children were found hungry, neglected and scared in a park by a community policing forum that same year.
When police arrived at their house the parents were arrested for possession of drugs and child neglect.
The children were placed in the care of social services where they eventually talked about the terrible abuse they were subjected to at home.
The NPA welcomed the sentence.
