The Democratic Alliance has confirmed that it had started a process of engagement with employees on Wednesday that would lead to retrenchments within the opposition party.
National spokesperson, Solly Malatsi, said: "What we are doing is we are kicking off the first phase of engagement with employees who might be affected by the party restructuring our operations."
He said the current process is a result of recommendations contained in the DA's organisational review report which was commissioned last year, and which proposed that it restructure its operations.
"In addition to that, after every major election, the party institutes a restructuring of our operations so that we can align with the size and effectiveness of our operation with our objectives for the upcoming elections (2021 local government election). So, that is as a result of those two processes," Malatsi said.
He said the engagement process was still in the preliminary stage, but he said it would likely affect staff that were in the operational side of the party across the country.
